Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool: Maurizio Sarri’s men rated and slated after Premier League clash
Daniel Sturridge’s last-gasp equaliser prevented the Blues from claiming all three points
Chelsea dropped two points late on as Daniel Sturridge’s stunning 89th minute equaliser allowed Liverpool to snatch a draw at Stamford Bridge.
After netting the winner in the sides’ League Cup tie at Anfield four days earlier, Eden Hazard returned to haunt the Reds by netting the opener, though his side’s lead was cancelled out by their former forward late on.
Liverpool knocked on Chelsea’s door with well-worked build-up play and clever tactical moves for the entire match.
Then, when that all failed, they brought on Daniel Sturridge who took matters into his own hands by producing a stunning 25-yarder which snatched a point for his side.
Below are our ratings for Maurizio Sarri’s men based on their performances in the match.
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 7
Handled everything that came his way in comfortable fashion until the equaliser, for which he cannot be blamed.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 8
Kept Mane largely quiet for 90 minutes and remained composed as ever throughout.
Antonio Rudiger – 7
Made a fantastic goal line clearance to prevent a first-half equaliser from Mohamed Salah.
David Luiz – 8
Started nervously, but warmed into the game and bossed all aerial duels he was faced with. Cleared Roberto Firmino’s second-half header off the line.
Marcos Alonso – 7
Struggled to contain Mo Salah on a couple of occasions, but who wouldn’t?
N’Golo Kante – 7
Solid display as always, but produced nothing sensational on this occasion. Arguably could have closed Sturridge down quicker to prevent his equalising goal.
Jorginho – 7
Consistent fixture in Chelsea’s midfield. Involved in fantastic build-up play for the opening goal.
Mateo Kovacic – 8
Provided a fantastic assist for Eden Hazard to put Chelsea ahead.
Willian – 7
A threat in attack, but wasn’t the difference maker in this match.
Olivier Giroud – 6
Didn’t have much to go on, but made no errors either.
Eden Hazard – 8
A constant danger, struck when his chance came to give his side the lead.
Alvaro Morata (SUB) – 6
Had little impact after coming on.
Victor Moses (SUB) – 7
Added an additional attacking presence during his brief stint on the pitch.
Ross Barkley (SUB) – 6
Appeared to late in the game to make a difference.
