Manchester United fan Karl Pilkington compares supporting Jose Mourinho’s team to ‘having a pet tortoise’ in hilarious rant
The comedian is envious of the success of rivals City, having supported them when he was younger
Karl Pilkington has compared supporting Manchester United to having a pet tortoise in a typically hilarious rant.
The situation at Old Trafford seems rather bleak currently, with power struggles and poor performances doing little to ease the tension.
Jose Mourinho and midfield talisman Paul Pogba are feuding off the pitch, results are poor on it and Pilkington is rather sick of it.
The comedian, who is renowned for being rather grumpy, hilariously likened supporting the Red Devils to owning a pet tortoise.
“A bit of me now wishes I could change again, because City are good, aren’t they?” Pilkington told the BBC.
“But you can’t, can you? I realise that now as I get older – that it is about being loyal, isn’t it?
“Still, I feel like supporting United is like having a tortoise as a pet. I had a tortoise, and they are not entertaining to watch. You don’t watch them, but you know you have got a bit of responsibility to show some interest.
“That is what I do with United. I keep an eye on them.
“I don’t watch them every game because, at the minute, that is a waste of 90 minutes. I just look at the result and if they win it is a bonus, I have no expectations any more.”
A trip to the London Stadium to face a rejuvenated West Ham United side in the early kick off on Saturday is United’s next test.
Let’s hope results pick up soon for Pilkington’s sake, it doesn’t sound like the celebrity can hack supporting his side for much longer.
