The perfect shirt for leftwingers proves a huge hit in Spain
Their last match was played in front of 232 people, but Clapton Community Football Club has hit the big time after its “anti-fascist” strip proved a hit in Spain.
The fan-owned club, which was formed this year in Walthamstow, east London, has chosen to wear the red, purple and yellow colours of the International Brigades, paramilitary units of left-wing volunteers from across Europe who battled General Franco’s forces in the Spanish Civil War. The shirts feature the rallying cry no pasaran, Spanish for “they shall not pass”, on the back.
The team, who will compete in the Middlesex Counties league when the new season kicks off next month, wore the strip for first time during a pre-season friendly on Saturday. It has proved so popular…
