VineKin ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our website (vinekin.com) and use our mobile application (the "App").
1. Information We Collect
Account information (App):
- When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name.
- You may sign in using Google, Microsoft, or Apple, in which case we receive your name and email from those providers.
- You may also use the App as a guest without creating an account.
Website information:
- Waitlist signup: When you join our waitlist, we collect your email address.
- Contact inquiries: If you email us, we receive your email address and message content.
Profile and preferences (App):
- Denomination or tradition selection
- Spiritual interests and life stage
- Bible translation preferences
- Notification preferences and schedule
- Reading display preferences (font size, theme)
Usage and progress data (App):
- Reading history, progress, and statistics
- Lesson completions, daily challenges, and devotional activity
- Streaks, XP, levels, and achievements
- Verse highlights, bookmarks, and personal annotations
- Reading position (to resume where you left off)
Information collected automatically:
- Analytics: We use Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, features used, device type, and general location (country/region).
- Crash reports: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs, device state, stack traces, and app version to improve stability.
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version.
- App Check: We use Firebase App Check (reCAPTCHA Enterprise on web, Play Integrity on Android, App Attest on iOS) to protect our services from abuse.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's features (Bible reading, devotionals, learning paths, daily challenges)
- To sync your progress and preferences across devices
- To send push notifications you have opted into (daily reminders, streak alerts)
- To diagnose crashes and improve app performance
- To display advertisements (free-tier users)
- To process subscriptions and in-app purchases
- To notify you when VineKin launches (waitlist emails only)

- To understand how visitors use our site and app, and improve the experience
- To protect our services from spam and abuse
3. What We Do NOT Do
- We never sell your personal information
- We never share your email or personal data with third parties for marketing
- We never use your data for purposes unrelated to VineKin
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may collect information:
- Firebase Authentication — account creation and sign-in (Firebase Privacy Policy)
- Firebase Firestore — storing account data, progress, and app content
- Firebase Analytics — understanding app and website usage patterns
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivering push notifications
- Firebase Remote Config — feature configuration
- Firebase Hosting — website hosting
- Google AdMob — displaying advertisements to free-tier users (Google Privacy Policy)
- RevenueCat — managing subscriptions and in-app purchases (RevenueCat Privacy Policy)
- Google Vertex AI (Gemini) — AI-powered prayer and devotional personalization, running within our own Google Cloud project (Vertex AI Data Governance)
- reCAPTCHA Enterprise — bot and abuse protection on the website
- API.Bible — Bible text content
5. Advertising
Free-tier users may see banner advertisements and optional rewarded video ads. We use Google AdMob to serve these ads. AdMob may collect and use advertising identifiers and device information as described in Google's Privacy Policy. All ads are filtered to be family-friendly (G-rated content only). Premium, Duo, Small Group, and Family subscribers do not see advertisements.
You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings (Android: Settings > Google > Ads; iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking).
6. Prayer and Devotional Data
We recognize that your prayer life and spiritual reflections are deeply personal. VineKin treats this data with the highest level of care:
- Journal entries and prayer reflections you write in the App are encrypted on your device before being stored. This means your spiritual writings cannot be read by VineKin staff or anyone with database access — only you can view your own content.
- Devotional progress (completion status, bookmarks) is stored to sync your experience across devices, but does not contain personal content.
- Prayer preferences (such as preferred devotional depth and reminder times) are stored to personalize your experience.
- AI-powered prayer suggestions: With your consent, VineKin may use your prayer categories, scripture selections, and journal themes to generate personalized prayer suggestions. This processing is performed securely within our own Google Cloud project — your data is never sent to third-party AI services, never used to train AI models, and never leaves our infrastructure. You can disable AI-powered features at any time in the App settings.
- We never sell, share, or use the content of your prayers or journal entries for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to your personal VineKin experience.
- All prayer and devotional data is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
7. Push Notifications
With your permission, we may send push notifications for daily devotional reminders, streak reminders, and other updates. You can configure notification preferences within the App or disable them entirely through your device settings.
8. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Firebase services hosted by Google Cloud. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. All data is transmitted over HTTPS encryption. Prayer and journal content is encrypted on your device before transmission and storage. Some data (such as reading preferences and cached Bible content) may also be stored locally on your device.
9. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained for longer periods. Waitlist emails are retained until we notify you of launch or you request removal.
10. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from within the App (Profile > Settings > Delete Account). Upon deletion, all personal data associated with your account will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. You may also request account deletion by contacting us at the email address below.
11. Children's Privacy
VineKin is designed for users of all ages, including families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. The App is intended to be used under parental supervision. All advertisements are filtered for family-friendly content. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided personal information without your consent, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Data portability
- Opt out of analytics tracking (use your browser's Do Not Track setting or a browser extension)

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the updated policy on this page and within the App, and updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
